Q. What is DFF and what does it stand for?
A. DFF, or Digital File Format, is Promo Only's latest offering of content. As an alternative to DVDs, MPEG files (video files) are for the Professional DJ/VJ who uses a computer in lieu of, or in addition to, stand alone DVD players. Currently Promo Only offers subscriptions of certain video formats as MPEG 4 files and the Hot Video Classics as MPEG 2 files. In January of 2010, the Hot Video Classics will be released strictly as MPEG 4 files. ***NOTE: We suggest waiting for the HOT VIDEO CLASSICS MPEG-4 DVD-ROMS or purchasing the HOT VIDEO CLASSICS DVDs if you need the content in a MPEG-4 format. Converting MPEG-2 files to MPEG-4 will result in an overall loss in quality.***

Q. What formats are available currently in DFF?
A. Presently, Hot Video and Express Video are available as MPEG 4 files and the Hot Video Classics are available as MPEG 2.

Q. When will you have other formats available?
A. As the demand increases, other formats will become available.

Q. Is this a download service?
A. No. The MPEG files are delivered via DVD-ROM.

Q. What software do you recommend using with DFF?
A. The software you use depends on your preference. Popular professional DJ/VJ software includes Serato VS-L, Virtual DJ, Megaseg, and Numark's Cue, but there are others available.

Q. Can I get a discount if I order a format on DVD AND DFF?
A. We do not offer a discount for a purchase of both DFF and DVD together. Many subscribers are multi venue/system operators and as such, have been required since we began business in 1992, to receive multiple copies of the same format to play at/on each venue/system if needed. This is in compliance with agreements we have with the record labels.

Q. Why are the Hot Video Classics only available in MPEG-2?
A. This is a temporary situation for those wishing we were releasing them immediately as MPEG-4. A complete roll out of the Hot Video Classics in an MPEG-4 format will occur by January 2010. In the meantime, we suggest buying the standard DVDs and converting the files manually to MPEG-4 or converting the MPEG-2 files to MPEG-4, if you need the videos in MPEG-4 for whatever software you are running.

Q. Why is Promo Only only producing DFF in MPEG-4 format in the future?
A. MPEG-4, the emerging format for digital video, is largely considered the "high definition" standard, and offers superior technological enhancements in both quality and compression over MPEG-2. MPEG-4 also supports robust metadata tagging well beyond MPEG-2. Finally, MPEG-4 is natively "progressive" which means it's ideal for modern Plasma,
LCD, and projection displays.
While today the computer hardware requirements to decode MPEG-4 remains higher than MPEG-2, this technology gap will continue to shrink. We firmly believe that MPEG-4 offers the best long-term value for the digital video marketplace and building a library in it today will enable a competitive edge. |

Q. Can I get DFF for back issues?
A. We are not currently offering DFF for any back issues.

Q. Does DFF require me to enter the track info once I open the file in my DJ software?
A. The Metadata (track info) is encoded in the MPEG file allowing your DJ/VJ software to instantly have the information without having to type it in manually; provided your DJ/VJ software can read ID3 tags from MPEG-2, or Atoms from MPEG-4. Not all applications support this, please consult the documentation of your software.

Q. Will these files play on my DVD player?
